Grant's Head People
Well, before I get started on this little "creative" project, let me tune you in!
I'm sure everyone I know talks to themselves. At least, you probably do, if you know me, because I don't hang around "normal" people. Well, I love talking to myself. This is also known as "Talking to Jack", since that is what my father's "friend" was called. My Dad perfected not only the art of talking to yourself, but carrying on a dialogue with several internal personalities, whom Beth Gonnella has appropriately named "Head People".
"Head People" are in reality the different facets of your conscience. They are kind of like the devil on one shoulder and the angel on another, except on a grander scale. There can be numbers of them, depending how many stances you take on a given issue or thought. They glorify the concept of "on the other hand....", because they are either acting in concert against you, or against each other, which has been known to cause headaches. (too much mental deliberation)
So yes, talking to yourself involves these head people, and with me it's even a larger issue because I don't have many people to talk to. Psychologists tell us this is the sole reason that "Talking to Jack" and "head people" are invented.
However, I haven't lost my head. Let us rather say that I have perfected this into an art, a really intricate game that is very absorbing. Let me introduce you to my split personalities and "head people"!
1. Moi! This is the oratorical, romantic, long-winded and history-loving buff that you all know and love.
2. John is the closest to my personality, and he usually wins out in the end over the others, although he can come up with some really loser ideas. He's more of a realist and analytical, with a tendency to boil over and is very patriotic; a zealot.
3. Dmitri is my resident pessimist. Anyone who has ever heard me say "Dmitri is really giving me a hard time" knows that pessimistic and cynical thoughts are rolling. Dmitri is hard, calculating, impenetrable, and dedicated to the cold, hard facts. The manic-depressive side of my personality.
4. Gucci is the optimist. Always ready to give someone another chance, believe the best in people, sweet, heartwarming, and a true humble servant. He really does have hope springing eternal.
5. Robert is the romantic. Always poetic, literary, knows every perfect gallant line and loves friendship. Dedicated to the emotional and nostalgic in everything, the one who sheds tears in a magnificent thunderstorm or at the memory of a heroic cause. Loves dreams, imagination, and the wind in his face.
6. Jack is the eternal good listener. Always there to listen to my one-sided rants and tirades.
7. "The Chorus" All the other head people who are nameless, and who never cease to surprise me with their random suggestions and resolutions. The support backup group.
So there they are! I have cemented them into the "Grantonian National Congress", and we shall begin deliberating things in public so that you may be amused at our craziness. (or just mine)

"I'm sure everyone I know talks to themselves." *strives hard to look innocent of the charge* No, actually, that's impossible... and what a fun idea to bring all these fellows out for introductions!!!
*dresses up and settles into a balcony seat which enables perfect attention to the Grantonian Congressional Debates*

Why thank you! Wow, we have one person in the spectator's balcony, so we'd better start deliberating soon! :-)
